Helping Parents with Some of Their Biggest Challenges; Parents Committee Conference Nearly Full

Montreal - Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Children and teens face a wide variety of issues and parents often struggle with how best to help their children. That’s why the °µÍøÁÔÆæ Parents Committee is holding its second Parents Conference. The free event will offer a series of workshops on Saturday, May 5 (8:45 am to 2:15 am) at the Grande Prairies Vocational Centre (6065 boulevard des Grandes-Prairies) in Saint- Leonard that aim to help parents with some of the toughest parenting questions.

Workshop topics include helping kids through anxiety and stress, dealing with bullying, getting through homework, cannabis and how to talk to your kids about the new laws, navigating the educational and healthcare system for those with special needs children and helping your child become an effective public speaker.

Several workshops are already full, but there remain a few spaces left for the following topics:

  • Helping your children become great public speakers
  • Supporting students with fine motor difficulties
  • The importance of after-school routines for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • The wealth of opportunities for success via vocational education programs
  • Parents with special needs children: navigating the education and health sectors
  • Juggling responsibilities: caring for both young children and your aging parents
  • *New topic: The advantages of robotics in helping kids learn

About the °µÍøÁÔÆæ Parents Committee

The °µÍøÁÔÆæ Parents Committee (formerly Central Parents Committee) is a government-mandated body that represents all °µÍøÁÔÆæ parents by informing the °µÍøÁÔÆæ of parents’ needs, advising the °µÍøÁÔÆæ, representing parents on °µÍøÁÔÆæ committees & the Council of Commissioners, promoting parent participation and informing parents of relevant issues. The committee meets once a month. It began its Parent Conference in 2017, wanting to offer parents a free event at which they could educate themselves on a variety of topics relevant to parenting.

About the °µÍøÁÔÆæ’s Involvement

The °µÍøÁÔÆæ has supported the Parent Conference enormously, both financially and offering resources. The school board administration has been quite involved, offering support and advice. Many of the speakers are °µÍøÁÔÆæ experts and consultants as well. This conference offers them the opportunity to share their wealth of knowledge with parents directly.
